Call on him while he is near
It would be understandable to be under the impression from the opening verses that this is aimed at people who don’t normally go to church or who do not profess to have a faith (though I wouldn’t say it isn’t relevant at all to wherever people are “at”) but if you look at it in its original context, it is really meant for “God’s people” who have turned away from him – a practice not too uncommon for God’s people as mentioned throughout the Bible. Make me an instrument of your peace
Recently we have all been living under a cloud of events that has been gloomy to put it mildly. This prayer was written over 100 years ago and is still relevant, especially during these times.
You are my help
The UK’s weather in the summer of 2018 was amazingly hot and sunny, turning my lawn into straw. It needed a drink but because we were in a bit of a drought we needed to conserve the water. Looking at the state of it caused me to think about a psalm that King David wrote whilst in a very hot, dry and parched place. There was no water around but he was looking for something a bit more substantial!
